Gainesville, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman University track & field got back to business over the weekend as they took part in the annual Pepsi Florida Relays at the Percy Beard Track on the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla. The meet was a two-day event held over the course of Apr. 4 and 5.

Things started out slow for the Wildcats as Rockel Mitchell finished with a time of 11.88 seconds in the Women's 100 Meter Dash. Junior transfer Christina Roundtree followed that up with a time of 24.71 seconds in the Women's 200 Meter Dash. For Roundtree, she finished 18th overall in the event.

Tavia Burke finished just out of the top 10 with an 11th place mark and a time of 13.78 seconds in the Women's 100 Meter Hurdles. Mitchell would bounce back nicely in the field events as the St. Andrews, Grenada junior finished fifth in the Women's Long Jump with a distance of 5.72m.

Ron Danielle Williams finished fifth as well in the Women's Shot Put competition as she threw a distance of 13.08m.

In men's action, Joel Redhead added to his already accomplished NCAA Provisional time two weeks ago with a sixth place mark in the Men's 200 Meter Dash. Redhead finished the event with a time of 21.05 seconds. He would add to that with another sixth place finish (46.84) in the Men's 400 Meter Dash.

Fellow men's student-athlete freshman Ronnie Ashe posted a 13th place finish in the Men's 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 14 seconds flat. Teammate Eric Cray finished eighth overall in the Men's 400 Meter Hurdles as he registered a time of 52.58 seconds. For Cray, it was just off a personal-best for the freshman from San Antonio, Tex.
 

 

The men's 4x100 Meter Relay team finished seventh overall, while the women's team finished in ninth place. Craig Johnson finished fourth overall in the Men's Shot Put with a throw of 14.62m.

B-CU will take to the track again on Apr. 12 when they travel back down I-95 to Coral Gables to compete in the Miami Elite Invitational at the University of Miami. For more information, please log on to the Miami athletic website at www.Hurricanesports.com.
