Valencia, Spain - Bethune-Cookman University assistant track & field coach Angela Williams has recently won the gold medal at the World Indoor Track & Field Championships in Valencia, Spain.

Two-time World Indoor silver medalist Angela Williams (Ontario, Calif.) announced to the world that she is back and better than ever with her win in the women's 60 meters. The second fastest athlete out of the blocks, Williams strong surge in the last 10m propelled her to victory in a world-leading, personal best 7.06 seconds. 2008 U.S. 60m runner-up Alexis Joyce (Denver, Co.) was eighth in 7.37.

"It feels awesome, I'm so excited," stated Williams. "This just confirms that working hard and believing in yourself pays off."

Williams arrived at B-CU over the summer as an assistant track & field coach for sprinters with the 'Cats. She has trained for the past few years under B-CU head track & field coach Garfield Ellenwood. Ellenwood is nationally-reknowned for his exploits on and off the track with gold medalists, as well as several other medalists throughout the nation.

"This is a great thing for Angie," stated Ellenwood. "She has worked extremely hard, and it shows that it is paying off. I go back to my old saying 'God is good all the time ... and all the time God is GOOD.' This is all about her, but I feel good for her so much."

Ellenwood will work this summer as the head coach of the Liberian National Team at the Summer Olympis in Beijing, China. Fellow B-CU assistant track & field coach Kia Davis will be competing for the Liberian National Team under Ellenwood.

Williams will be competing at the Summer Olympics as well.

"I was confident but I didn't want to be cocky," stated Williams. "I said 'today is the today Angie'. It's about staying calm and focusing on my race. I'm so happy. Now it's a new beginning with the outdoor season."
