Castro Named Player of the Week
 
DeLand, Florida - B-CU's Emmanuel Castro was named the DeLand Suns Player of the Week for his play in the Florida Collegiate Summer League last week. Castro plays 3B for the Suns, now 16-4 and in first place in the FCSL standings. Castro is hitting a team-leading .320 this Summer for the Suns.

Coach Melendez won his milestone 300th game in the 2009 season for B-CU, becoming the second youngest coach ever at age 35, NCAA Division I baseball coach to win 300 games.

Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Mervyl Melendez Summer Baseball Camps will be underway next week and registrations are still available online at: wwww.collegebaseballcamps.com/cats The hitting camps are set for June 22-23, the pitching and catching camps are June 23-24 and the advanced skills camp will be July 8-9 - all at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach.

B-CU's Hiram Burgos 6th Round Pick In MLB Draft By Brewers
Milwaukee, Wisconsin - The Milwaukee Brewers picked B-CU senior pitching star Hiram Burgos in the sixth round, the 196th player picked in the Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday. Burgos, who was part of B-CU's four straight MEAC Championships and four consecutive NCAA regional bids - was 6-3 last year striking out 94 batters in 79.1 innings with a 3.74 ERA. [+]

Ali Simpson - Peter O'Brien Named Freshman All-Americans
B-CU's post season baseball honors continued on Wednesday with LHP Ali Simpson and catcher Peter O'Brien being named to Louisville Slugger/Baseball America - 2009 NCAA Division I All-Freshman Team. Both Simpson and O'Brien were earlier last month named to the first team All-MEAC honor squads as freshman. The tandem helped the 'Cats win their fourth straight MEAC championship and NCAA regional bid - ending the year 32-28 with two heart-breaking 8-7 losses in the Gainesville Regional. [+]

Jacksonville Beats Wildcats 8-7 At NCAA Regionals
Gainesville, Fla. - Jacksonville's Chuck Opachich hit a solo home run in the eighth inning and the Dolphins held off a bottom of the ninth Wildcat rally to beat B-CU 8-7 Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Gainesville Regional. Two straight tough losses at NCAA's end the season (B-CU, 32-28), winning the fourth straight MEAC title and earning the ninth NCAA berth in 10 seasons. [+]

Three-Run Bottom Of Ninth Wins It 8-7 For Gators
Gainesville, Fla. - Florida's Teddy Foster's two-run single with one out in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Gators to a come-from-behind 8-7 win over Bethune-Cookman University in the NCAA Gainesville Regional on Saturday night. "We battled and fought to the end," said B-CU Head Coach Mervyl Melendez. The Wildcats led 4-0 after three innings, and had leads of 4-3 after ecen innings and 7-5 heading into the borrom of the ninth. [+]
