Named as MEAC Pitcher of the Week (April 9) Went a career-high 7.1 innings on the mound in a non-conference win against Quinnipiac (3/14) Posted two putouts with the glove in the field against North Carolina A&T (5/20) in the MEAC Championship series in Norfolk, Va. Fanned a career-high nine batters against Quinnipiac (3/14) Had his first shutout against North Carolina A&T (4/7) in the second game of a doubleheader; Collected a league career-high seven strikeouts and just three hits in the eventual 8-0 B-CU victory Also went seven innings on the mound in a series sweeping win over Maryland Eastern Shore (4/29); Grabbed four strikeouts in earning the win for the Wildcats on the road Struckout five batters against Stetson (6/2) in the NCAA Regional [Tallahassee, Fla.] as he had three full innings of work; Gave up just two hits to the Hatters in the elimination loss for the Wildcats FRESHMAN (2006) 2006 season ... Went just 0-1 in his freshman season with an ERA of 7.65 Had 13 appearances, all of them out of the bullpen; Collected four games on the mound in conference play Posted 12 strikeouts with just six walks in his rookie year Worked 20 complete innings on the hill for the Wildcats 2006 highlights ... Fanned two batters and allowed just three hits against North Carolina A&T (4/8) Also struck-out two batters in 1.2 innings of work against UCF (3/21) Posted a strikeout with zero (0) hits allowed in one full inning against Stetson (2/21) Saw a season-high 4.1 innings of action on the hill against Ohio State (3/12) at the Kennel Classic in Jacksonville, Fla. HIGH SCHOOL Lettered for two years under head coach Edwin Correa at the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School. Assisted in leading PRBAHS to a 21-2 record and the Palomino World Series Sub-Championship in 2005. Graduated with honors academically in 2005. Led PRBAHS to a 20-0 regular season record as a senior. Helped the team in capturing the 2005 League title. Named to the Excellence Team for the Palomino League in Puerto Rico. PERSONAL Hiram A. Burgos was born in his home country of Puerto Rico on August 4, 1987 to parents Hiram Burgos Delgado and Ivette Irizarry Arce ... working towards a degree in Business Administration at Bethune-Cookman, while hoping to play professional baseball someday ... wants to help the `Cats in winning an MEAC, Regional and, one day, a College World Series title ... volunteers his time working with the Habitat for Humanities ... chose Bethune-Cookman because of the outstanding baseball program ... says his high school pitching coach, Ramser Correa, was a big part of his athletic enhancement. |
