Went just 0-2 on the year in a down year for the hard-throwing, crafty right-hander from Puerto Rico Collected an ERA of 9.22 for the year in 13 appearances on the hill; Worked 13.2 innings overall for the campaign Fanned seven batters on the year as a sophomore; Assisted in one combination shutout with starter Francisco Rodriguez 2007 highlights ... Helped out starting pitcher Francisco Rodriguez in a shutout of Maryland Eastern Shore (4/28) on the road Struckout a season-high two batters at Oral Roberts (3/31) in a victory over the Golden Eagles Had one strikeout against Coppin State (4/21) in the first game of a doubleheader where he worked one inning on the mound FRESHMAN (2006) 2006 season ... Saw action in 16 games for the Wildcats, all out of the bullpen in some key relief situations Ended the year with a 4.50 ERA as he allowed 11 runs (nine earned) Spread out 20 hits in 18 innings of action on the hill Struck-out 14 batters in his freshman campaign as a walk-on Collected one loss on the campaign for his only decision 2006 highlights ... Picked up an assist on the hill at UCF (5/2) Worked up 3.1 innings on the rubber out of the bullpen against high-powered Oral Roberts (4/1) Struck-out a season-high three batters vs. Jacksonville (2/11) in his first collegiate contest HIGH SCHOOL Lettered for two years under head coach Edwin Correa at the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and High School. Helped to lead his team to back-to-back perfect 20-0 regular season records in 2004 and '05; finished the 2005 season at 21-2 overall. A high school Honor Roll student with a 3.89 GPA. Named as a Best Field Leader. Assisted in leading PRBAHS to consecutive League Championship titles. Was a member of the Puerto Rico champions in 2004. Sub-Champion in the 2005 World Series in the Palomino League in Puerto Rico. Sub-Champion in the Excellent Tournament in 2005. Selected as Vice President of his class in 2005. PERSONAL Concepción is the son of Angela Cosme ... he was born to the world as Concepción Guzmán on September 13, 1987 in the Bronx, New York ... came to be a student at Bethune-Cookman University because it has great studies, and because of the successful history of the program ... wants to throw 95 mph by the time he leaves Bethune-Cookman ... wants everyone to know that his grandfather has been the biggest athletic influence in his life because he always went to Concepción's games and never failed to attend a game. ... made official visits to Benedictine and Santa Clara. |
