JUNIOR (2007) 2007 honors ... All-MEAC Second Team 2007 season ... Named to the All-MEAC Second Team in his first-ever season as a Wildcat Saw action in 41 games with 29 starts in the outfield; Really jumped into the starting lineup midway through the season Finished sixth on the team in batting average with .283 to his credit; Slugged 30 hits in 106 trips to the dish Led the MEAC in triples with seven on the year; Also picked up two doubles and 13 RBI for the campaign Stole 13 bases in 16 attempts; Posted three sacrifice flies and one sacrifice bunt to show great teamwork Had a perfect fielding percentage with 32 putouts and an assist from his left field position 2007 highlights ... Jumped into the starting lineup in the Savannah State series, and really never let it up except for missing three starts from that point in the year Went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBI against Florida A&M (3/24); Also drew a walk and an intentional walk in that contest at home against the Rattlers; Had his first career triple in that game Collected a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI at Oral Roberts (4/1) Had a 2-for-4 evening with yet another triple at home against Jacksonville (5/1) Stole a season-high two bases in two tries against Delaware State (5/6); Also went 2-for-3 with two runs and a RBI in that game against the Hornets Picked up a 2-for-4 day against North Carolina A&T (5/20) in the MEAC Championship series in Norfolk, Va.; Had a triple and later scored in that game Collected a RBI against Florida State (6/1) in the NCAA Regional [Tallahassee, Fla.] BEFORE BETHUNE-COOKMAN Was an honors graduate at Cook High School Played Junior College baseball for two years under coach Steve Janousek Helped his team to finish eighth and sixth in the conference both years at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Played basketball, football and baseball in high school Helped the Hornets to the State Semifinals in football (2000), as well as a Regional title in baseball (2002) Also helped his high school squads to a Regional title in football (2001), while assisting with a State Quarterfinal appearance in baseball in 2002 Played his high school baseball for coach Bob Owsley Named as an All-Region performer (2003) in baseball, as well as an All-Tournament selection in basketball (2003) PERSONAL ... Neal Tyrone Jones, Jr. is the son of Neal and Veronica Jones ... Born on Jan. 20, 1986 in Adel, Ga. ... His cousin Jazz Covington plays basketball at Louisville ... Originally signed a collegiate scholarship to play football at Valdosta State, but elected to play baseball for a junior college instead ...
