International Trip To Costa Rica Set For August 15-20
 
B-CU Men's Basketball Coach Cliff Reed announced his team will be going to Costa Rica August 15-20, playing three exhibition games and enjoying the Central America resort country as well. B-CU will also get an additional 10 practice dates this Summer in conjunction with the international trip. Reed's staff also recently completed basketball camps at Moore Gynmasium and Reed announced a fifth recruit has signed with the Wildcats for the 2009-2010 school year.

MEAC Announces Academic Award Winners For 2008-2009
 
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA., - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced the 2009 Commissioner's All-Academic Team, recognizing 593 student-athletes from the conference's 12 member institutions who achieved academic success during the 2008-09 academic school year. The team honors student-athletes, including sophomores to seniors, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. "I congratulate and commend the student-athletes who have achieved academic success by maintaining a 3.0 or better grade point average during the 2008-09 school year," said Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. "I would further like to congratulate the coaches, institutions, and parents of these academic achievers for their contributions to the student-athletes success."

2008-2009 B-CU Team Award Winners Announced
The 2008-2009 B-CU Athletic teams were hosted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Bethune-Cookman University Athletic Department at team banquets held Monday and Tuesday night in the Wildcat Lounge. Each sports designated award winners and head coaches gave their summaries of the season. Spring sports are still competing with MEAC Championships upcoming in track and field, (this weekend) softball (May 7-10), baseball (May 14-17) and golf competes at the Minority National Championships in Port St. Lucie (May 8-10). Norfolk State Beats B-CU In MEAC Quarterfinals
Winston-Salem, North Carolina - The Spartans of Norfolk State ended B-CU's milestone, first-ever NCAA Division I winning-season, with a 63-58 win in the MEAC Conference Quarterfinals Thursday night. "Norfolk State won the game and they were the better team tonight," said B-CU Coach Clifford Reed Jr. "We lost our composure at certain parts of the game and had to play extended minutes without C.J. (Reed). The technical on C.J. - he wears his emotions on his sleeve and he has to learn to channel those emotions." NSU (12-17) led at halftime 29-25 and in the game, the Spartans shot 44 free throws (making 22), in a contest that was foul-filled throughout (B-CU was called for 28 fouls and NSU 20). [+]

Wildcats Win MEAC Tournament Opener Over UMES 52-47 - Up Next, Norfolk State, Thursday, 6 p.m.
Winston-Salem, North Carolina - B-CU Coach Clifford Reed has said many times - players make plays - and Wednesday at the MEAC Conference Tournament - his players made the plays in the final minutes for a 52-47 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore in the first round of the tournament. "I knew it was going to be a difficult game and it is tough to beat a team three times in a season, "said Coach Reed. "We have been in a lot of close games and we showed a lot of character and toughness down the stretch. C.J. (Reed) played great in the end scoring some key baskets and hitting four straight free throws when we needed them." In the game, the teams were tied at halftime 23-23. The contest had 10 lead changes and the score was tied 10 times in a very competitive and even-matched MEAC first rounder. C. J. Reed scored a game-high 22 points and had four assists, 14 of the points in the second half with the `Cats winning a close game vs. UMES for the third time in 2008-2009. [+]
