Box Score

Daytona Beach, Fla. - John Holmes scored a career-high 26 points as Bethune-Cookman survived a late game comeback attempt from Edward Waters to win 81-73.

Edward Waters, down by as many as 22 points in the second half, cut the lead to 78-73 with 12.8 seconds remaining in the game.

Holmes scored 18 in the first half and Bethune-Cookman took a 43-29 lead into halftime.

Jimmy Hudson added 17 points and Josh Cummings had 14 for the Wildcats (1-4) who shot 52.9 from the field.

It was the inside game that hurt the smaller Tigers lineup as they relied on a steady supply of outside shots from Ulysses Bain III and Johnny Nelson.

Bain had 23 points, including 5 3-pointers, for the Tigers (5-3) and Nelson added 21. Edward Waters shot just 35.8 percent for the game.

For B-CU, it was their first win of the 2007-08 campaign that erased a six-game losing skid dating back to the 2006-07 season.

Bethune-Cookman will not get back to business as they travel into MEAC waters on Saturday with a 4 p.m. contest against rival Florida A&M at Moore Gymnasium. For ticket information, please call the B-CU Ticket Office at (386) 481-2292.

Fans and friends visiting Moore Gymnasium are encouraged to get to the game early as a sell-out crowd is expected by the end of the women's contest. B-CU women's team tips off against the Rattlers at 2 p.m.
