Virginia Beach, Va. - With a game-high 15 tackles on Saturday, Bethune-Cookman linebacker Ronnie McCullough was selected as this week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Freshman linebacker Nick Mayant was named as this week's MEAC Rookie of the Week.

B-CU is becoming known for defense throughout the Alvin Wyatt era, but this season has been extremely well-known. Senior Ronnie McCullough leads the nation in total tackles (137) and tackles per game (15.15) through nine games for the Wildcats. Against the Bison, McCullough had his eighth double-digit tackle performance of the campaign, and picked up three (3) quarterback sacks--a career-high for him in that category. Overall, he had four stops behind the line of scrimmage--also a career-high for the senior from Tampa.

McCullough, nicknamed as the "Minister of Defense", is earning his fourth consecutive MEAC defensive Player of the Week award ... and his fifth for the 2007 season. The award was shared with Hampton's Marcus Dixon who collected 15 tackles against the Rattlers of Florida A&M in a 30-15 win for the Pirates.

As for freshman linebacker Nick Mayant, he is earning his MEAC Rookie of the Week award after posting six tackles against Howard in a huge 37-26 win on the road in Washington, D.C. Mayant is a 6-foot-, 210-pounder from Ft. Meyers, Fla. (North Ft. Meyers HS) who has picked up 19 tackles on the year in nine games for B-CU.

This week's Offensive Player of the Week award went to Delaware State's Vashon Winton as he helped to lead the Hornets to their first MEAC title in the past 10 years.

Offensive Lineman of the Week honors went to Kellen Kemp of Delaware State, while the Special teams Player of the Week award was accepted by Jeremy Gilchrist of Hampton.

The Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University will finish off the season this weekend against Florida A&M in the Walt Disney World Florida Classic presented by State Farm. For more information, please locate your internet browser to www.FloridaClassic.org.
