Wildcats Men's Golf Team Third at B-CU Spring Invitational

Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman University men's golf team carded a 577 total and finished in third place of the annual B-CU Spring Invitational played at the Indigo Lakes Country in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Wildcats posted a 286 total in the final round. Florida Gulf Coast shot a blistering hot 281 in the final round to come from behind and capture the team championship with 568 total.

Hot-shooter Carl Corbin led the Wildcats with a 141 total and a tie for third place after firing an even-par 72 in the final round. Sophomore teammate Willie Mack III shot a five-under-par 67 in the final round for a 143 total to tie for seventh place. Troy Coker and Chris Dunn both tied for 20th place with 151 totals. Coker, a senior from San Antonio, Tex., scored a one-over 73 on Sunday while Dunn, a senior from Canada, shot 82 in his last round. Dan Venema, from neary Ormond Beach, carded a one-over-par 73 in the final round for a 152 total and tied for 24th place.

Kyle Hammond of Florida Gulf Coast fired an even par 72 in his first round, followed by a five-under-par final round of 67 to capture a tie for the individual title with a five-over 139 total. He finished alongside Stetson University's David McAndrew who also collected a 151 for a share of the title. They both finished finished two strokes ahead of B-CU's Corbin and FGCU's Henderson. Stetson teammates Gabe Costa and Michael Stewart finished in a tie for fifth place with a 142 total after each, respectively.

The Hatters of Stetson were the runner-up in the team race with a 571 total after firing a 288 in the final round. The Wildcats finished in third place, while St. John's (591) and Florida A&M (604) finished fourth and fifth.
 

 

The 36-hole event was played at the Indigo Lakes Country Club which features a par 72, 6,772-yard layout. The Wildcats return to action next weekend at the FAMU Spring Invitational in the capital city of Tallahassee.
