Daytona Beach, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman University collected their first conference win of the 2008 season on Friday afternoon with a 4-3 win over visiting Norfolk State University at the City Island Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach, Fla. B-CU fell behind early as NSU collected the doubles point win on a 2-1 advantage. B-CU (3-8, 1-1 MEAC) did get a win at the No. 3 position with the duo of Jerome Ward and Kristofer Martin on the strength of a 8-1 win over the Spartans' Roman DelCastillo and Keenan Ruff. In the singles matches, it was the Wildcats surging out strong with three of the first four matches going to the Maroon and Gold. Stefan James earned his sixth win of the year as he downed DelCastillo on scores of 7-5, 6-4 in a great match-up. Behind James was Yannick Jackson with a straight-set victory over NSU's Vassil Zahariev, 6-3, 6-3. Also helping the `Cats in the win was senior Ward with a 6-0, 7-5 win ... while teammate Martin added a 6-0, 6-0 win as well at the No. 6 position.
