Jacksonville, Fla. - Jacksonville was able to hold off Bethune-Cookman in men's tennis on Monday afternoon, 5-2 at the Keith Watson Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Fla. The Dolphins of JU (8-12) got out to an early start by winning the doubles point with two-of-three matches. JU's combination of Jordi Ballester and Francisco Riveroll teamed up for an 8-4 win in the No. 1 match over the B-CU (3-12) duo of Emil Vassilev and Stefan James. At the No. position, Vinny Craveiro and Marcos Oliveira of the Dolphins outlasted the Wildcats' team of Jerome Ward and Kristofer Martin, 8-6. B-CU collected a doubles win at the No. 2 position as Yannick Jackson and Cristian Cruz defeated Victor Vaz and Alberto Lopez, 8-6. In singles play, the 'Cats got two wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. Ward knocked off JU's Lopez in a straight set victory, 6-4 and 6-4. Meanwhile, in No. 6 play it was B-CU's Martin handling Clay Garrett of JU, 6-1 and 6-1. JU, however, took all four other singles points in straight sets for the Dolphins. The Maroon and Gold now get some much-needed rest before traveling to the MEAC Championships later this week in Raleigh, N.C.
