Sept. 3, 2007
Daytona Beach, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman women's basketball is setting up for a positive year under fourth-year head coach Francis Simmons, and what better way than to let the fans and media know exactly who the Wildcats will be playing in 2007-08? The Wildcats have recently released the schedule, and it looks to be as strong as ever. Coach Simmons knows his team is in tact, finally, and wants this to be the big push they are looking for to elude the non-winning seasons of the past. Off the schedule comes several highly-ranked opponents from last year, but added are a host of South Carolina teams in which the head coach knows a lot about. B-CU will begin the campaign with four (4) consecutive non-conference road games at USF (Nov. 13), at local opponent Stetson (Nov. 14) and then at Jacksonville (Nov. 17) and North Florida (Nov. 20). The Wildcats return home during the Thanksgiving holiday to tackle Charleston Southern and conference rival Florida A&M (Dec. 1) before heading back to the Palmetto State [S.C.]. A home match-up with newly reclassified Division I opponent North Carolina Central and USC Upstate round-out the calendar year. The Wildcats step back into a full slate of conference (Mid-Eastern Athletic) games on Jan. 12 with a trip to Hampton University, followed-up closely with Howard University two days later. B-CU will host MEAC foes Coppin State (Feb. 16) and Morgan State (Feb. 18) at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach as non-home game venues away from Richard V. Moore Gymnasium on the campus of Bethune-Cookman. Other key games include a home-and-home two-game swing with MEAC newcomer Winston-Salem State, though the games will not yet count as conference contests. A trip to Delaware State (Feb. 23) and a visit to Florida A&M (Mar. 6) mark some other key road contests. Some exciting home games include Delaware State (Jan. 26) and North Carolina A&T (Feb. 11). With this year's exciting schedule, the action should be hot inside Moore Gymnasium, but make sure to get your tickets early and often as seating is never reserved, and works at a general admission chart. B-CU head coach Francis Simmons and his staff has assembled an all-star caliber team this year, and the push for MEAC glory begins with an exhibition game against Warner Southern on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. inside Moore Gymnasium. The admission to that contest is free, and the entire public is welcome to attend as the B-CU men's squad shares a home exhibition contest as a doubleheader affair at 4 p.m. that same day against Warner Southern.
