Virginia Beach, Va. - Women's basketball freshman forward Sarah Bolden has been named this week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week the league announced on Wednesday afternoon from the home office in Virginia Beach, Va.

Bolden was instrumental last week in Bethune-Cookman's 60-58 win over non-conference opponent North Carolina Central University at home in Daytona Beach, Fla. In that contest, she poured in a season-high 10 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting touch from the field.

Standing 6-foot-1, she is quickly becoming hailed as the "Slider from Slidell: Part II" after her predecessor--Chris Duhon.

The Slidell, La. Native is currently averaging 2.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. She completely obliterated those numbers against the Eagles last week. She went on to post eight rebounds to fall just short of a double-double performance. Bolden was all over the court as she also handed out one assist and grabbed in two steals while swatting one blocked shot.

This is the first MEAC Rookie of the Week award this season for Bolden--and the second award in as many weeks for B-CU. Fellow freshman Demetria Frank collected the honor just one week ago for the Wildcats.

Areya Walker of Norfolk State picked up the Player of the Week award for this week within the conference. This week's Defensive Player of the Week honor went to Tiffany Gadsden of Norfolk State as well. The Spartans were all over the court in games against Savannah State and North Florida.

Bethune-Cookman is now taking some much-needed time off for the holiday break before getting back to the court again on Dec. 31 when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate. This will be the second of three (3) South Carolina road trips for the `Cats this year.
