B-CU To Defend Men's & Women's Minority Collegiate Golf Championships
 
2009 PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship The Championship will be staged for the 12th consecutive year at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., May 8-10. A total of 38 colleges and universities are scheduled to participate in the three-day competition that will be contested on the Tom Fazio-designed Ryder and Wanamaker Courses. The 54-hole, stroke-play Championship will consist of four divisions: NCAA Men's Division I and II, and NAIA Men's and Women's. In addition, there is an Individual Invitational competition for minority Men and Women contestants. The Individual Invitational is open to collegiate golfers who are African-American, Hispanic-American, Native or Alaskan American, Asian or Pacific Island American.

MEAC Announces Academic Award Winners For 2008-2009
 
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA., - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced the 2009 Commissioner's All-Academic Team, recognizing 593 student-athletes from the conference's 12 member institutions who achieved academic success during the 2008-09 academic school year. The team honors student-athletes, including sophomores to seniors, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. "I congratulate and commend the student-athletes who have achieved academic success by maintaining a 3.0 or better grade point average during the 2008-09 school year," said Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. "I would further like to congratulate the coaches, institutions, and parents of these academic achievers for their contributions to the student-athletes success."

Men and Women Golf Teams 2nd at NCAA Minority Championships
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Tennessee State University made a furious comeback in the final round to capture the Division I men's title and the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg cruised to victory to claim the women's team division crown at the 23rd PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship. Tennessee State made up ten-strokes on the final day, with three of their five players firing under-par rounds. Chris Seibel of Indianapolis, Ind., who fired a final round 1-under par 71, birdied the 17th hole and saved par on No. 18 to seal the victory. The Tigers won the division by one-stroke over defending champion Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla. The University of Texas-Pan American finished in third place overall. [+]

2008-2009 B-CU Team Award Winners Announced
The 2008-2009 B-CU Athletic teams were hosted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Bethune-Cookman University Athletic Department at team banquets held Monday and Tuesday night in the Wildcat Lounge. Each sports designated award winners and head coaches gave their summaries of the season. Spring sports are still competing with MEAC Championships upcoming in track and field, (this weekend) softball (May 7-10), baseball (May 14-17) and golf competes at the Minority National Championships in Port St. Lucie (May 8-10). B-CU Golf Hosts United Negro College Fund Event Friday At Pelican Bay
Daytona Beach, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman University and the men's and women's golf teams will host the First Annual United Negro College Fund (UNCF) fundraiser event at Pelican Bay Golf Course, Friday, April 17. Golfers Win second Straight Team Championship - Win Bash At The Beach
Embry-Riddle University was the Bash At The Beach - Tournament host at the Daytona Beach Golf Course over the weekend to 13 teams. It was Coach Cy McClairen's B-CU's Lady Wildcats winning the team championship shooting rounds of 299-306 - 605 to win the team title by 11 strokes over Berry University. It was B-CU's second straight team title, earlier this Spring winning the Don Benbow Championship in Jacksonville March 9-10. [+]

Lady Wildcats Win Don Benbow Invitational Team Championship
The B-CU women's golf team won the team championship at the Don Benbow Invitational last week in Jacksonville - beating 11 teams for the title shooting team rounds of 303-304 - 607 to edge runnerup Detroit Mercy by 17 shots. The Lady Wildcats were led by tournament medalist Fern Grimshaw who shot rounds of 72-71 to garner top individual honors. [+]
