Daytona Beach, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman College women's golf got a breath of "fresh air" over the weekend as they finished in second place at the annual Bethune-Cookman College Spring Invitational at Indigo Lakes Golf Course in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The Wildcats, competing with just four members of the spring squad, shot very well over the weekend.

Maria Dunne (Dublin, Ireland) led all golfers as she finished in first place with scores of 77 & 80 (157) for the weekend, finishing +13 for the event. Dunne finished one stroke ahead of second place competitor Therese Karlsson of Jacksonville University.

Also shooting well for B-CC was freshman Fern Grimshaw with scores of 79 & 82 (161) as she finished +17 for the weekend, as well as earning a tie for fifth place with Camilla Loeveid of Jacksonville.

The Wildcats used Nikeda Cooks (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Becky Dowell to secure the second place finish. Cooks (167) and Dowell (178) finished 13th and tied for 23rd, respectively.

The `Cats finished the weekend with a score of 663 (+87) as a team, while first place finisher Jacksonville ended the event with a score of 637 (+61). JU's Karlsson, Jessica Green and Loeveid all finished amongst the top 5 for the weekend in individual scoring.

Bethune-Cookman will be back in action in two weeks when they head to the North/South Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Florida. The event will be taking place at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club, hosted by Jacksonville University.
