Stone Mountain, Ga. - The women's golf squad at Bethune-Cookman College took first place over the weekend at the Women's Golf Foundation Tournament held at the Stone Mountain Golf Club in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

In what is referred to as the Women's Historically Black College/University (HBCU) Championship, the Wildcat women were led all weekend by powerful performances from Becky Dowell and Maria Dunne (Dublin, Ireland).

Dowell, a sophomore on this year's squad, led all performers at this year's event with a total score of 155 through the 36-hole event. Her low score of 155 was good enough for a new season-low, two-round total during the 2005 (fall) and 2006 (spring) seasons.

As for Dunne, she mustered up a second place finish overall with a score of 159 overall through 36 holes. It was just two strokes over her season-low mark of 157.

The Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman finished three (3) strokes ahead of second-place competitor Jackson State.

The women's team will now prepare for the PGA of America Championships held in Port St. Lucie, Florida on May 5-7 at the North Course. Without a conference championship, the Wildcats are unable to compete in the NCAA Championships, forcing this to be the last official event of the 2005-06 season.
