Boca Raton, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman was unable to capture a win on Saturday as the Wildcats Softball squad dropped two games in the Miken Classic hosted by Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. B-CU dropped the opening to Eastern Illinois, 8-0 before being stopped in the nightcap, 12-4 by Florida Gulf Coast--both games in a run-rule contest.

In the day's opening game for Bethune-Cookman (4-23), the Wildcats ran into some tough pitching from a good Panthers squad from Eastern Illinois. The Wildcats were limited to just one (1) hit on the day, narrowly escaping their second no-hit contest AGAINST them this year.

B-CU senior third baseman Christina Trimble was the only bright spot in the contest as she collected the game's only hit for the Maroon and Gold. After that, it was all about Eastern Illinois.

EIU (4-6) second baseman Sarah Coppert was 2-for-2 at the dish with a triple and three runs driven in while scoring once herself. Beside her were fellow Panthers Megan Nelson and Robyn Mackie who each registered a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

The Panthers scored two runs in both the second and third inning before plating four more runs in the fifth to end the game on a run-rule after the fifth frame.

The win went to EIU's Ashley Robinson who went the full five innings in the pitcher's circle with one strikeout and one walk issued. That goes along with the one hit allowed. The loss was credited to B-CU freshman hurler Allison Garcia who slipped to 3-13 on the campaign.

Garcia was hit nine times for eight runs (all earned) while posting two strikeouts.

In the second game of the day for the `Cats, they faced off against Florida Gulf Coast for the third time in four days--and the fourth time this season overall. The outcome, however, would be much the same it has been with a tough loss for the Fighting Wildcats.

The Eagles of FGCU started off the game hot with four runs score din the opening inning--aided by a three-run shot from left fielder Carmen Paez. The two teams traded runs in the second frame as B-CU's Garcia collected her second homerun of the year with a solo shot to left to leadoff the inning.

The fourth inning would be harsh for the Wildcats in the fourth as freshman pitcher Taryn Hernandez was roughed up which allowed the Eagles to cross six times in the inning. Needless to say, that blew the hinges off the door of opportunity for the Wildcats.

The Maroon and Gold tried to rally in the top-half of the fifth inning behind a RBI fielder's choice from shortstop Holly Bussey, as well as another RBI single up the middle from Garcia to help classmate Ashton Hinds score on the play. The Wildcats saw FGCU add another run in the bottom of the inning to end the game on a run-rule at 12-4.

The win was collected by FGCU's Dana Frantz while the loss was given to Hernandez of B-CU. Hernandez fell to 1-5 on the year in the wake of the setback. Hernandez was hit 16 times for all 12 runs (eight earned) and grabbed one strikeout and three walks in a tough outing in the pitcher's circle.

The Eagles were led by a duo of players with three hits a piece. Both Jessica Gary and Jessica Paez followed each other in the lineup with three hits a piece and a combined two RBI. They both scored twice as well.

B-CU was anchored by Garcia's 2-for-2 showing at the dish with a homerun and two RBI. Ashton Hinds also had two hits and a run scored, while Trimble had the Wildcats' only other hit in the contest.

As the #6 seed, the Wildcats will take on the #5 seed tomorrow at 11 a.m. back at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton to finish up the Miken Classic. For up-to-date information and live stats, please visit the Florida Atlantic athletic website at www.FAUsports.com.
