Box Score

Daytona Beach, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman was unable to stop a hard-hitting Tulsa squad on Wednesday as they visiting Golden Hurricane downed the Wildcats by a score of 5-1 at Sunnyland Park in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Tulsa (17-11) got on the board first in the top-half of the opening inning as they used an RBI single from Sara Dyer to plate leadoff batter Lauren Lindsay for the 1-0 lead.

They scored their largest amount of the game in the third inning when they pushed across three runs to break open the game, 4-0.

Dyer collected her second homerun of the year with a solo shot to right field, followed by a single from Smart and an advance to third off of a B-CU error. Smart would cross home plate one batter later with an RBI single from Chapman. The Golden Hurricane scored their final run of the inning as Ashlee Lubniewski collected a run-scoring double to left to push in Chapman.

B-CU (5-24) got their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning when senior Brandi Holley punched in her team-leading fourth homerun of the year to leadoff the inning. For Holley, it was the second time this season she has led off an inning for the `Cats with a homerun.

Her first was against St. Francis (Pa.) back on Feb. 27 at Sunnyland Park.

The bad news for the `Cats was that their visitors from Oklahoma were not done scoring as the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa scored once more in the sixth frame as Dyer collected yet another RBI hit to score Kailey Yarmer.

On the day, Tulsa pounded out 15 hits--the second time in three games the Wildcats has allowed an opponent to post at least 15 hits in a game.

The win went to Tulsa's Jackie Lawrence who moved to 8-5 on the season. She went all seven innings in the circle, striking out four batters and spreading out four hits and one run via the solo shot by Holley.

The loss went to B-CU freshman Allison Garcia as she fell to 4-14. The freshman from California continues to improve on the mound though she did allow four earned runs and nine hits in three innings of work. Also working in the pitcher's circle for the Wildcats was classmate Taryn Hernandez who allowed one unearned run on six hits through four frames.

The Golden Hurricane got offensive production from Dyer with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate as well as three RBI and scoring once. Behind her was Lindsey Tower and Lubniewski who both went 3-for-4, respectively. Yarmer rounded out the players with multiple hits as she had two.

For B-CU it was just Holley in the multi-hit category with two hits in four trips, as well as freshmen Anush Mooradian and Brittani Austin each collected a hit a piece.

B-CU will get back to the field again tomorrow with a doubleheader against visiting Cornell University at Sunnyland Park beginning at 2 p.m. Admission to the event is free to the public.
