Daytona Beach, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman University used a strong performance from their middle position players to push past visiting Eastern Michigan University this afternoon, 5-2 at the City Island Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach, Fla.

B-CU (8-1) secured the first point of the day with a doubles point victory as the Wildcats took 2-of-3 from the Falcons.

The team of Olga Ruislova and Kiara Powell earned a big win at the No. 1 position in doubles play with an 8-6 win over EMU's (3-4) Vanessa Frankowski and Yana Parfenyuk. Lucia Polakova and Valerie Kendrick wrapped up the doubles point with an 8-6 win at the No. 2 position.

In singles action, sophomore Kiara Powell ousted Yana Parfenyuk with scores of 6-4, 6-1 in a straight set win at the No. 3 position. Fellow Wildcats Valerie Kendrick defeated EMU's Emma Czarnecki in a supermatch with scores of 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 at the No. 5 position.

Senior Lucia Polakova bounced back in an exciting match against the Falcons' Aditi Krishnan at the No. 2 position with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 win.

EMU collected singles points on the strength of Vanessa Frankowski knocking off Olga Ruislova in the No. 1 position. Teammate Laura Fernandez defeated B-CU freshman Jeneice Ward in the No. 6 position with scores of 6-0, 6-1 in a straight set.

With the win, the Wildcats have now won their last eight matches dating back to their only loss of their season-to-date in the opener of the 2007 campaign.

They will look to continue their streak on Monday, Mar. 5 when they partake in a tri-match at South Carolina State in Orangeburg, S.C. The `Cats will take on Savannah State (9 a.m.) and then Winston-Salem State (11 a.m.).
