Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Bethune-Cookman University women's tennis program received the very sad news of the passing of former Wildcat Jennifer Nelson-Hiller recently. Jennifer played for the lady wildcats during the 2003-2004 season; compiling a 7-8 singles record and 17-6 doubles record helping B-CU to 15-9 overall and a runner-up finish in the 2004 MEAC Tennis Championships. Before transferring to B-CU, Jennifer played one season at Arkansas State University and two seasons for Central Florida Community College in Ocala, Fla. She was a product of many local tennis professionals and a 1999 graduate of Seabreeze High School. "Jennifer's contribution to the program was much deeper than just wins and losses as she became a catalyst for our team's unity during the 2003-04 season," states B-CU head coach Trey Bogue. "Her singles record would have been much better if we had played out all the matches. I will always remember Jenifer's big forehand, her competitive sprit and that infectious smile. She will be sorely missed by her former teammates, trainers, athletic departmental staff and coaching staff. Our deepest sympathies go out to her family." The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 9 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Lohman Funeral Home located at 733 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Christ Presbyterian Church, 1035 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a trust fund at East Coast Community Bank, c/o Baby Rachel Hiller, 1240 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174.
