2008-2009 B-CU Team Award Winners Announced
 
The 2008-2009 B-CU Athletic teams were hosted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Bethune-Cookman University Athletic Department at team banquets held Monday and Tuesday night in the Wildcat Lounge. Each sports designated award winners and head coaches gave their summaries of the season. Spring sports are still competing with MEAC Championships upcoming in track and field, (this weekend) softball (May 7-10), baseball (May 14-17) and golf competes at the Minority National Championships in Port St. Lucie (May 8-10).

MEAC Announces Academic Award Winners For 2008-2009
 
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA., - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced the 2009 Commissioner's All-Academic Team, recognizing 593 student-athletes from the conference's 12 member institutions who achieved academic success during the 2008-09 academic school year. The team honors student-athletes, including sophomores to seniors, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. "I congratulate and commend the student-athletes who have achieved academic success by maintaining a 3.0 or better grade point average during the 2008-09 school year," said Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. "I would further like to congratulate the coaches, institutions, and parents of these academic achievers for their contributions to the student-athletes success."

Bethune-Cookman Volleyball Adds Outside Hitter
The Bethune-Cookman volleyball team added its first signee for 2009 last Tuesday with the addition of Janeen Davis out of San Antonio, Texas. Davis looks to help fill the hole left by graduating senior Danielle Goodrum. "Janeen will be a great addition to the team because of her powerful swing, persistence, and great work ethic," B-CU Head Coach Vanessa Cogswell said of the 5'10" Outside Hitter. Lady Wildcat Finishes Ranked in Final NCAA Statistics
The NCAA released their final statistics and rankings for NCAA Division I Volleyball. Bethune-Cookman was proud to find one of our Lady Wildcats on those listings. Junior Chelle Ticeson made the national rankings, coming in at 21st in the nation in average hitting percentage. Ticeson finished the season with 267 kills on 565 attacks for a final hitting percentage of .379. [+]

Ticeson Selected to Volleyball All-MEAC Tournament Team
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference named its All-Tournament Team following the tournament conclusion on Sunday. Chelle Ticeson was listed among the best in the tournament with strong performances against Howard and then Florida A & M. [+]

Bethune-Cookman Volleyball Goes Down at the MEAC, But Not Without a Fight
Defending champion Florida A&M survived a scare from Bethune-Cookman and emerged with a 3-2 (19-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12) win in the semifinals of the 2008 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship on Saturday. Chelle Ticeson led Bethune-Cookman with 20 kills, while Reina Carson recorded 15 and had a team-best attack percentage of .464. [+]

BETHUNE-COOKMAN OUTLASTS HOWARD, 3-2
Bethune-Cookman outlasted Howard 3-2 (20-25, 25-15, 13-25, 25-23, 15-11) Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2008 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship tournament in Holland Hall on the campus of Hampton University. Bethune-Cookman, the MEAC southern division's No. 3 seed, will face Florida A&M in Saturday's semifinal round at Holland Hall, with the match beginning at 3:30 p.m. [+]
