BEFORE BETHUNE-COOKMAN: Marlene played for one year (2005) at Independence College in the Kansas Jayhawk East conference under head coach Yona Julian ... Also lettered one season under head coach Erin Mellinger at Independence while also helping her team to a record of 40-9 in 2004 ... Helped the squad in participating in the Elite Eight for nationals, as well as winning the Region VI District K championship ... Also played tennis and participated in the Women's Championship Tournament Division I ... Led the squad in digs with over 500 to her credit in two seasons ...
