Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Rattlers of Florida A&M University had a lethal dose of venom for Bethune-Cookman University on Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory over the Wildcats in a MEAC volleyball match at Moore Gymnasium in Daytona Beach, Fla. FAMU took the match on scores of 30-16, 30-22 and 30-20.

Bethune-Cookman (6-11, 3-3 MEAC) was unable to sustain a lethal dose of powerful hitting and their own mistakes on Thursday night. The `Cats accounted for 17 FAMU (10-5, 6-0 MEAC) points off attack errors, as well as seven service errors as a team.

FAMU entered the match with a 96-match winning streak in league play, and they were determined to continue that streak tonight.

The Rattlers' Iva Lakic collected 17 kills and two (2) errors for a hitting percentage of .405 on the night--as well as nine digs. Behind her was teammate Jovana Blazeski with 13 kills for the Rattlers, to go along with 10 digs.

Bethune-Cookman did fight hard in the match at intervals as the Wildcats used the play of Danielle Goodrum and Reina Carson on kills that were behind the front line of defense for the Rattlers. Several tip attempts by freshman setter Julie Gibson were good too as she dropped in four kills.

Gibson also chipped in with 26 assists for the Wildcats, while three players picked up double-digit digs including Carson with 12 and freshman Alyse Guzman with a team-high 16 digs. Goodrum added 10 digs for B-CU.

Susan Egoavil of FAMU gobbled up every attack coming her way for the Rattlers as she collected a match-high 24 digs. Setter Zaira Manzo added 48 assists.

The Wildcats hit just .121 on the night--the lowest since a .102 performance against the Rattlers last month in a match televised on ESPNU in Tallahassee, Fla. With the win tonight, the Rattlers collect the sweep of the Wildcats ... though B-CU is showing nothing but improvement against the league's undoubtedly toughest program of all time.

Julie Gibson was also a part of the Wildcats ultimate blocking machine as she registered four blocks (three assists) on the night. Talisha Black added another two assists for the `Cats.

The Wildcats will now celebrate Senior Appreciation Night on Friday, Oct. 26 with a 7 p.m. match-up against Winston-Salem State University back at Moore Gymnasium. For more information on the match, please call the B-CU Office of Sports Information at (386) 481-2206.
